Kala Channa By Linda Knight

Kala Channa dish from me. Simple to make and goes well either as a side dish or on its own with a paratha


Kala Channa (Brown chick peas)


1 tin Kala Channa drained

1 large onion chopped

1 tsp cumin seeds

2 medium size tomatoes chopped and skinned

2 tbsp ginger garlic paste

1 finely chopped green chilli or to your taste

1 tsp coriander powder

1/2tsp Turmeric powder

1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder

1 tsp garam masala powder

1tbsp tomato purée

Handful fresh coriander leaves finely chopped to garnish.


Method


Heat the oil in pan and add cumin seeds ,sizzle then add onions and chopped chilli and fry till golden brown.

Add the ginger garlic paste and fry for couple of minutes

Add tomatoes and fry till oil separates.

Add rest of spices and cook for couple of minutes, you’ll see oil starting to separate.

Add tomato purée and cook few seconds

Add Kala Channa and then add water until you’re happy with the consistency and cook about 20 mins

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and ginger matchsticks
