Special Mutton Curry By Niraj Pal

Special Mutton Curry

It's a Bengali style mutton curry which i used to see during my childhood .

So for cooking Sunday Special Mutton Curry we need Mutton!!


I have used 480 gms of mutton.

For Mutton Marination

2 medium size onions grated or paste.

1tbsp heaped ginger garlic paste

1 and 1/2 tbsp coriander powder

1tsp turmeric

1tbsp degi mirch

1cup mustard oil

If you want, you can add coriander stems half cup

Salt as per taste.

Mix all the ingredients well with mutton and set it aside for half an hour.

For potatoes marination:

2 potatoes cut in half

A pinch of turmeric

1tsp Mustard oil

1tsp red chilli powder

1tsp salt

Mix well and add the potatoes.set it aside.

For gravy:

3 medium size onions roughly chopped

6-7 green chillies or as per your taste

1/2 tbsp garam masala

1tsp lemon juice

For tempering oil

2 black cardamom

4-5 green cardamoms

1tsp cumin seeds

2bay leaves

4-5 cloves

And one cup coriander leaves for garnishing and using in the curry.


Heat a pan, add 1/2 cup mustard oil

Once heated, add the whole spices to temper

Once crackle add the chopped onions and saute till it become golden brown

Now add the marinated mutton and cook it for 20-25 minutes

Now add half of the coriander leaves amd green chillies.

Cook for another 5 minutes.

Now add marianted potatoes and cook for 5 minutes.

Now, transfer it to a pressure cooker

Add hot water. Remember you are making curry so add a little bit more water.

Now close the cooker and cook for 2-3 whistles.

Remove the pressure and add garam masala. Cook for 10 minutes. Now add 1tsp lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
